LANGUAGE OF THE UNIT

Meaning changes
with context.

A message is not finished when the words are written. It must also fit where it appears, who will read it and what happens after the click.

Platform-aware message
Copy adapted to the expectations, space and reading behaviour of a particular communication channel.
Audience
The people a message is intended to help. Their needs and prior knowledge guide the language and level of detail.
Tone
The attitude carried by word choice and rhythm—for example, warm, direct, calm or instructional.
Call to action (CTA)
A clear invitation naming the next step, such as opening a lesson or downloading a source file.
Disclosure
A visible statement of a relevant relationship, payment or condition that could affect a reader’s decision.
Context collapse
When people from different audiences encounter the same public message. Clear context reduces misunderstanding.
EDITORIAL NOTE

Preserve the source.
Improve the claim.

The uploaded drafts include placeholders, “limited time” language, broad promises and a reference to Google Plus. They are preserved as downloadable source material for comparison. The teaching examples below use current, channel-neutral labels and describe only resources that exist on this course site.

PRACTICAL ILLUSTRATION

One course promise,
four editorial decisions.

  1. Start with evidence

The course is free and includes ten videos plus written and downloadable materials.

  2. Select one benefit

Choose focus, routine, wellbeing, boundaries or planning—not “everything.”

  3. Fit the context

Email can be personal; a public post needs context; a forum requires restraint; a short update needs one sharp idea.

  4. Test the action

Use a working course link and confirm that the destination matches the invitation.

GUIDED ACTIVITY

Write a four-channel message family.

Choose one real lesson benefit. Write an email-signature line, a public post, a forum-safe resource line and a short update. Keep the central promise consistent while changing context, tone and detail.
